Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue Receives New Grants

December 29, 2018

Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (thoroughbredaftercare.org) has once again given a significant grant to MidAtlantic Horse Rescue to provide ongoing support for our rescued thoroughbreds. This funding has allowed us to grow our program in a sustainable fashion. TAA is an industry wide initiative that inspects, accredits, and funds thoroughbred rescue and rehoming programs throughout the country. The accreditation process is very detailed and thorough but insures that the horses and programs are being run in a responsible and sustainable manner. We were one of the first 19 programs to be accredited in 2012, and have been re-accredited biannually since that time. There are now more than 70 accredited aftercare programs in the US, and donors can rest assured that their money is being spent wisely. Thank you TAA!

We are proud to announce that the ASPCA® Rescuing Racers Initiative has given us a grant for 2018-19 to continue our popular On the Right Track voucher program in which all new adopters receive $200- towards lessons or training of their MAHR thoroughbred. In addition, the ASPCA® has granted funds for more extensive retraining of horses in our rescue. MAHR was honored to be one of the first six programs in the country to be selected for the very first Rescuing Racers Initiative,  which really gave thoroughbred aftercare a jump start in the US. The ASPCA® has supported our rescue every year since then. Thank you!!!! For more information please visit ASPCA.org

A big shout out to Thoroughbred Charities of America (thoroughbredcharities.org) for their 2018 grant to purchase and install a new run in shed in our main field at the rescue. The current shed was reconfigured from and existing structure. The new shed will provide shelter for more horses in that field. TCA gave us our very first grant way back in 2002 when we first got started, and has supported us annually since then. Hooray TCA!!
