Downpatrick

Downpatrick (Paddy) was our own personal horse. We bought him as a weanling and brought him along carefully and correctly. He was always super smart, kind, and affectionate. We ran him 13 times, and although he didn’t break his maiden, he tried all the time. He ran just one race this May and then unfortunately colicked suddenly with a twisted gut- we took him to New Bolton where he underwent successful surgery. He was the perfect patient and recovered completely at home.

He has the OK to do anything, including race again, but he really just wasn’t a great runner in spite of his “try.” We decided to place him through the rescue so people could come meet and ride him. He was NEVER tapped or injected. Legs are perfectly clean (in fact the state vet during the pre race inspection always said he was the cleanest legged horse she had seen.) He is barefoot and sound with good feet. He has lovely natural balance, super elastic movement, and a great mouth. Honest under saddle- at the track even if horses around him were acting like orangutans, he never batted an eye or reacted. He comes when you call him and LOVES peppermint lifesavers. Did I mention his adorable ears?? His only downside? He cribs at feeding time. Otherwise he is perfect and will be a star at whatever you want to do.  (Can you tell how much I love this horse? We always make sure our own retired runners get the best homes, and every single one of them has gone on to do great things with their new owners.)
