Ben’s Malice came to us from his connections at Delaware Park a year ago. He was stakes placed at some lesser tracks as a young horse, achieving war horse status, and his current trainer claimed him in the fall of 2023. Ben arrived with a failed wind operation, and his new connections had surgery to hopefully correct it, but it was not successful. He was fine galloping and didn’t make a noise, but he had trouble breathing when breezing, so he called us to retire him. A favorite of the trainer, we could see why- as I stood outside his stall getting his history, Ben spent the whole time nuzzling my cheek and hair- so it was hard to say no to that LOL.
Ben has had plenty of time off- he struggles a bit with his weight and is low man in the field, so we have kept him in smaller turnout with one or two other laid back friends. Like many horses that have had wind operations, sometimes when he eats and drinks, it comes back out of his nose, so he should be fed from lower buckets or on the ground.
You will not find a kinder horse. He was a rock star for his first ride. We want to have him Chiro’d and because of his white legs he is prone to scratches.
