Dedicated to Giving Ex-Racehorses a Brighter FutureNEWS FLASH!! MidAtlantic Horse Rescue has been chosen as a recipient of the ASPCA's Million Dollar Rescuing Racers Initiative We are thrilled beyond belief! What does this mean for MAHR and our horses? -We are moving our base of operations later this month to nearby Woodstock Farm, home of the late Mrs Allaire duPont and the legendary Kelso. This beautiful and historic farm will give us more pasture space for our rescued racehorses. While we cannot increase the number of horses we handle at a time, we will have better grazing and use of the famous "Hunter Barn." We have also hired another part time employee so we are not as strapped for time. We are indebted to everyone at Great House Farm for giving us the opportunity to get established. We will still use that farm for quarantine, but we have overused the pastures, and now they can have some of their peace and privacy back. We will still show our horses by appointment only, as Bev lives 45 minutes away- but we would love to show visitors around- hoping to have an Open House once we get settled in. -We are increasing our marketing budget in order to promote these wonderful, intelligent horses to prospective adopters. Renowned equine photographer Lydia Williams will help out as well. - Announcing Our New Program!!! "On the Right Track" made possible by this ASPCA Rescuing Racers Initiative. We understand that bringing a new horse home can be intimidating for many people. There is often an adjustment period while the horse and rider develop a partnership. Our New "On the Right Track" program is designed to facilitate a smooth transition between our rescued horse and his new owner in order to reinforce a successful placement. All new adopters will receive a voucher for up to $200- in order to get their MAHR horses "On the Right Track." This voucher can be used for lessons or training with a professional of their choosing-- we will pick up the bill up for to $200! Stay tuned for more info and updates in the coming weeks...Click here for photos! THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO MADE THIS POSSIBLE.....

WOW!!! With the support of Rick Porter and Victoria Keith of Fox Hill Farm, the great folks from the RockportHarbor.com forum put together a wonderful cookbook called There are lots of delicious and easy recipes (including a section for horse treats.) And the really cool thing? The introduction has a dedication to the mission of improving the welfare of our racehorses during and after their careers, and has info and never before published pictures of the ill fated grey wonder filly, Eight Beles. Each divider has pictures and stories about rescued thoroughbreds, most from MAHR. Copies are only $19.99+ $4.95 (S&H). The cookbook is beautifully produced, with the proceeds benefitting MAHR and the Thoroughbred Charities of America Eight Belles Fund. Thanks to the great folks at FHI for having us again this year. Although it was cold and wet, we saw lots of friends old and new, adopted 5 dogs out, sold a lot of our used tack, and even got to see some great horses and riders. FHI is truly a top level event.
Congratulations to Hannah Sue Barnett riding Mr Dick Thompson's St Barths, (Reg. Name Red Track Shoes) winner of the CCI** AND the MidAtlantic Horse Rescue Trophy for the Highest Placing American TB at the CCI** Level

The winner of the Beale Wright Morris Memorial Trophy in 2009 was Delanie Kite. An active member of SAPC she is currently bringing along a borrowed horse- a mishap led to a broken arm but she can't wait to get back in the saddle! Beale was an internationally recognized event rider and former pony clubber whose top horses were all thoroughbreds off the track. She passed away in March 2005. This award is given annually to the member of St Augustine Pony Club (DE) who best embodies Beale's commitment to pony club, love of horses, and compassion towards others. Delanie also received a $100- grant towards a pony club clinic in the coming year. Noted sculptress Nancy Weimer Belden, of Newton, NJ, created the perpetual trophy.
